ISOLATED YOUTH PSYKOSOMA

‘Psykosoma’ is a piece of gothic post-punk from Swedish band, Isolated Youth. It’s a thick-textured cut defined by a wall of sound production that places gritty vocals against a harsh bed of compressed guitars and wailing synth countermelodies. It’s simultaneously a big, powerful track, and a ghostly, atmospheric one. ‘Psykosoma’ was composed in just fifteen minutes after a stroke of inspiration led guitarist William Mårdberg to tune his guitar to the iconic open Robert Johnson tuning. Thematically, they explain that the track “delves into the protagonist’s struggles and the inevitable confrontation with personal demons in perceived safe havens, yet it also embodies an esoteric and hopeful psychedelic essence.” Keep an eye out for their debut album, Miserere Mei. -Dan Peeke
